The Beauty of Blogging – 1

Hiya! Let’s start the series off by talking about the most common reasons why you shouldn’t blog. Yep. We are talking about excuses today…

1. I don’t think anyone wants to hear what I have to say.

See how I put that in big, bold letters? That’s because it’s a big fat LIE! Trust me. We absolutely want to hear what you have to say. Your viewpoint is unique to you, therefore no one else can say what you have to say quite the way you can. I’m not saying that to be nice, either. Your beliefs, opinions and ideas are shaped by your life experience and the way you see those experiences. To believe that no one wants to hear you is completely ridiculous, my friend. We need your wisdom, your mistakes, your optimism, your tenderness, your humor, your sarcasm, your… fill-in-the-blank! Girl, we need you!

2. I really want to blog, but I don’t have time.

Sure you do! Once we get this set-up, blogging takes no time at all. It’s just about getting logged in and typing your message.

3. I am not a good writer.

Hey! That’s okay. I’m learning that there is quite a difference between blogging and writing. Writing is formal, educational, informative. Blogging is just about talking. Think of it like this… you’re having a conversation with a friend of yours, only you’re typing it instead of saying it. You can trust me on this too, girlfriend. You see, I am a writer (don’t tell anyone) and when I first started blogging, it was sooo hard to read. The content was decent but I wasn’t conversational in my approach and boy you could tell. So if you haven’t been a great writer in the past, that is a-okay! You will make a great blogger.

4. I can’t spell or type.

Well when you’re blogging no one else can judge your typing skills. We just see the finished product. And as far as spelling… Well I’ve got two words for you: Spell. Check.

5. I don’t know how to get my name out there.

Well, guess what my friend? I can help you with that. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a guru or anything. However, I do have some experience in promoting blogs. I also have lots of friends who are gurus and make their living helping people just like you.

These are just a handful of excuses I’ve heard and have even told myself at one point or another in my life. If any of this sounds like you, well then you are blogger material. If you have more reasons you tell yourself and need me to help you, lever those in the comments and I’ll do my very best to address them as soon as possible.

Next week, we are going to get started on your blog itself. Until then be thinking of things you like, hobbies you’re into, and some of your favorite subjects to discuss. I promise you it will be useful information very soon!
