Hey there! How is your day going? Mine is going pretty well. I had a taco lunch date with my man and now I am catching up on rebuilding this blog. As I was typing up The Beauty of Blogging 5 I realized that I haven’t let you know much about me! So I thought I’d fix that with ten things that many of you may not know…
10. I went to Charm School.
That’s right, y’all! When I was in middle school I went to charm school!! If you are wondering what that is, I’ll give you an idea. Every Saturday for several months I went to a school that taught young women things etiquette, makeup application, self-care, etc. I remember learning how to elegantly walk down a flight of stairs, how to get in and out of car like a lady and how to walk, speak and eat gracefully.
9. I am extremely shy and introverted.
Most people assume that I am extremely outgoing and love being in a crowd. While I love people so so much, those who know me best know that I am just about as introverted as they come. I am also very very shy. Because it takes some work for me to introduce myself to new people, some assume that I’m snobby. But that just isn’t true!
8. I love to cross-stitch.
My kids looove to tease me about this little piece of trivia! Cross-stitching is very relaxing to me. When I was a little girl, my grandmother taught me how and we used to sit and cross-stitch together. It’s still something I thoroughly enjoy to this day!
7. My hair started turning sliver when I was ten.
My hair is a regular conversation starter everywhere I go. Most people know that my platinum white color is completely natural. But what a lot of people don’t know is that it actually started turning when I was ten years old. Back then, my hair was very very dark brown with natural red highlights. You can imagine that a strip on the right side of my head came as a bright white surprise. Nevertheless, it was there and it now the white has a silvery hue to it that attracts lots of attention!
6. I played the tuba in the marching band in high school.
This one still makes me chuckle. When I was high school I desperately wanted to play the saxophone in my high school band. However, I was raised by a single mother and we just didn’t have the funds to support that dream. When we found out that they school provided tubas and all we needed to purchase was the mouthpiece, I decided to go for it! I was a tiny little thing then and the tuba was bigger than me! Not only did I play my heart out during the off season, but I also carried that big tuba on my shoulder and marched on the field during football season!
5. Reading is a beloved hobby of mine.
There are stories of me at 18 months old grabbing a Times magazine and reading it “outloud”. I would also make anyone and everyone read me books anytime they sat down. In elementary school, I finished the entire Nancy Drew series and in my early teen years my favorite thing to do was to sit in my room and read my mom’s books.
4. I’m actually very good at Math and English.
I don’t say that to brag. I say that because more often than not, I can come across as flaky and ditzy. However, school was a huge strength of mine. I am confident that I will be a lifetime student and will go back to school as many times as I can!
3. I love the theatre.
While I can’t draw a stick figure to save my life, I do have a pretty strong creative streak. My creativity has been mostly expressed through the stage. Until I started having babies, I spent a lot of time on the stage dancing and acting. Once upon a time, a long long time ago, I even won a few awards… so ya… I’m kind of a big deal! 😆😂
2. I was stuck on a mountain in Colorado for 18 hours.
True story… When I was a teenager I went to Colorado with my church’s youth group. While we were there I signed up to go bushwhacking (hiking without a trail) in the mountains. On our way back down the mountain, we got lost and set up a makeshift camp. 18 hours later, search and rescue finally found us! It sounds horrible, but it is actually one of my most favorite memories!
1. Public speaking is not my favorite thing to do.
Okay, okay… I know I just said that I thoroughly enjoy the theatre, but that’s only if I get to be in character. For me, public speaking is something entirely different and I am always looking for ways to improve my skills.
So there ya have it! A little bit more about me. Now I want to know something about YOU! In the comments below, share a piece of trivia about yourself!
